India Day Fest & Kite Flying at Mill River Park, Stamford, Aug. 7

Stamford, CT - The public is invited to the India Day Festival and Kite Flying at Mill River Park, Stamford, to celebrate India’s 75th Independence Anniversary, Sunday, August 7, starting at 11:30 a.m. with an Indian and American Flag Hoisting at the Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd., Stamford. Following the flag hoisting, at Noon, an official ceremony will be conducted to celebrate Indian Independence Day at the adjacent Mill River Park, near the Carousel (Corner of Broad St. and Mill River St., Stamford).

Parking is available on the streets and may be at the UConn Parking lot, north of the park or at Target. The program agenda includes patriotic songs and remarks by dignitaries. After the ceremony, at around 12:40pm, an India Festival will start with Music, Colorful Folk and Classical Dances of India and Bollywood Dances. Simultaneously, kite flying will also start. There will be vendors for Indian food, Indian arts and crafts, Indian clothing and other items. Limited FREE Carousel rides for children from 1 p.m. on.

Bring your own kites or one can buy one at the festival. Cultural groups and dance schools will be performing on the main stage until 4:30 p.m.

At the ceremony, GOPIO-CT will recognize all 2022 high school graduates with a certificate and Amazon gift card. If you know any 2022 Indian American high school graduate from Connecticut School Systems, please provide their details to Mahesh Jhangiani at 917-273-9657, maheshmj@hotmail.com.

Independence Day Freedom Award 2022 Recipient for Service to GOPIO-CT and Community Causes: Yashasvi Jhangiani

Yashasvi Mahesh Jhangiani has been familiar face in the community in Connecticut for 20 plus years volunteering her time wherever there is a need. A Homeopath by profession, she is also a volunteer EMT with Westport EMS since 2003, on faculty for their American Heart Association CPR AED-First aid program and a member of the Norwalk Emergency Response Team. Besides helping at GOPIO, she gives her time and actively raises funds for organizations like the Open Doors Shelter, Ekal Vidyalaya, Sewa Diwali food drives, Norwalk Gurudwara, Sadhu Vaswani mission, Hindu Cultural Center, National Center for Homeopathy, Malta House, Naya Jeevan-Rescue Foundation, Tiny Miracles Foundation, Arya's Kids, Star-Inc Leading the Way, DIA- Dedicated Indians of America, One Life at a Time and the Mill River Park Collaborative through her Think Homeopathy First #Payitforward initiative. Yashasvi can be the driving force and energy behind any event that has a good cause as a motive AND she loves to spread joy through dance!
