Stamford's Firefighting Heroes to be Honored on April 26

The Stamford History Center is hosting the annual gala benefit dinner.

STAMFORD, CT– On Thursday, April 26th, the Stamford History Center will hold its Annual Gala Benefit Dinner.  This year, the theme is “Honoring Stamford’s Firefighting Heroes” celebrating Stamford’s firefighters.  The celebratory event follows this year’s exhibit at the Stamford History Center, “Stamford on Fire”, that tells the story of the origins and development of the Stamford Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Stations.

As part of the Stamford History Center’s recognition of Stamford’s firefighting companies, the History Center is delighted to announce that the following individuals will be honored at their annual gala: Stamford Fire Department Fire Chief Marshal Charles Spaulding, Stamford Fire Department Captain Philip Hayes, Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Supervisor Frank Docimo, Belltown Fire Department Former Fire Chief Joseph Copolla, Long Ridge Fire Department Assistant Chief Ralph Nau, Reema Odeh of the New Hope/Glenbrook Fire Company and Dorothy Canzano of the Turn Of River Fire Department.  The individuals were each nominated by their fellow colleagues and Stamford’s Fire Chief Marshal Charles Spaulding was nominated by the Stamford History Center Board, where he formerly served as a Director.  State of Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Stamford Mayor David Martin will also participate in the night’s festivities.

“The evening will be a celebration of their unique stories, as well as the traditions of firefighting in Stamford,” said Executive Director, Dr. Thomas A. Zoubek of the Stamford History Center.  ”The History Center’s current exhibit, “Stamford on Fire” chronicles the colorful history of Stamford’s firefighters and has drawn many firemen and their families to share objects, historic photos, uniforms and personal stories.”

Honoring Stamford’s Firefighting Heroes will take place at The Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s on April 26th at 6:00pm.  The evening includes wine, hors-d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert.  Tickets are $125 per person.  Tables may be purchased at a variety of package levels.  Tickets are currently on sale at www.stamfordhistory.org.

Marshall Millsap, Chairman of the Stamford History Center, added, “We are delighted to be honoring these living examples of service to our community.  It will be a great evening for commemorating Stamford’s unique history, and we are thrilled by the enthusiastic response from the community to our exhibit and to the Gala.”

The Stamford History Center invites everyone in the local community to join them on April 26th to show appreciation for our local heroes.  The “Stamford on Fire” exhibit is open to the public until May at the Stamford History Center.
