Stamford Emergency Medical Services Inc. (SEMS) is dedicated to keeping our community safe and is offering a new program for parents and caregivers: car seat safety inspections. For their first event, SEMS is teaming up with Chelsea Piers Connecticut to offer a free car seat safety clinic on Saturday, July 13from 10am – 1pm in the Chelsea Piers parking lot.
SEMS personnel who have been certified by Safe Kids Worldwide as child passenger safety technicians will check car seats to see if they are expired or recalled and provide parents with hands-on assistance in the proper installation and use child restraint systems and seat belts. New and expecting parents are welcome. A Touch-a-Truck experience with an ambulance will be provided as well.
“There is no doubt about it, the proper installation and use of a child car seats can reduce the chance of fatal injuries in a car crash,” said Patricia Squires, Stamford EMS Chief and C.E.O. “We know that car seats have various methods of installation and use, and understand that can be confusing for caregivers. The goal of our free clinic is to instruct parents and caregivers on these important topics so that children can be as safe as possible when in the car.”
This event is part of a year-round “Safety Step-Up” initiative presented by SEMS to raise the community’s safety awareness. The Safety Step-Up initiative includes a series of FREE safety events, community partnerships, and plenty of safety tips throughout the year.
