City of Stamford Community Update

Storm

Mayor David Martin declared a Snow Emergency for Winter Storm Gail. The snow emergency took effect 8 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16 and will continue through to 12 p.m. on Friday, December 18.

  • Main roads are arteries have been cleared of snow but City crews will continue working into the evening to keep roads safe. Residents are advised to stay off roads until crews have more time to clear snow.
  • Report all downed wires and power outages to Eversource: 1.800.286.2000.
  • Report life-threatening emergencies to 911.
  • Report non-emergency issues to 203.977.4444 (Stamford Police Department).

Garbage and Recycling pick up have been delayed one day due to the storm. Thursday pickup will be done on Friday. Friday pickup will be done on Saturday.

Mayor Martin hosted a COVID-19 Update Livestream on Tuesday.

  • Stamford’s livestream relies on YouTube and was impacted by the global outages reported across Google platforms earlier this week. As a result, Stamford’s COVID-19 update did not livestream in its entirety and a recording was not saved.

COVID-19 Updates

Today — December 17 — Stamford has 8,200 confirmed cases. Last week — December 10 — Stamford had 7,400 confirmed cases. These numbers suggest Stamford has had 800 new cases in the past week, roughly 114 new cases per day on average. The City of Stamford has compiled a visualization of data up to December 15.

  • Family Centers. 60 Palmer’s Hill Road. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Optimus Healthcare. UConn Stamford. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • DOCS Urgent Care. 2001 West Main Street. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Schedule an appointment online or call 203.298.4600.
  • Stamford Hospital. Operated by Stamford Health. Open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule an appointment by calling 203.276.3300.
  • Tully Health Center. Operated by Stamford Health. Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule an appointment by calling 203.276.3300. Must have a doctor’s order faxed.
  • AFC Urgent Care. 3000 Summer Street. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • CVS Health. 1928 W Main Street, 229 Hope Street and 969 High Ridge Road. Drive-thru testing. Schedule an appointment online.
  • Additional testing availability:
  • Sema4. Located in Stamford High School’s Hillandale Avenue parking lot every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • In addition to Tuesdays and Sundays, Sema 4 will have pop-up testing at Westhill High School on Wednesday, December 23rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday, December 28th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Please note Sema4’s testing schedule may change in January, stay subscribed to this newsletter for updates.
  • Accessible Pharmacy offers in-home testing for blind, low vision, elderly, veteran, and disabled residents. Schedule an appointment online or call 215.799.9900.
  • Community Health Center Pop-Up Testing at Fire Headquarters (629 Main Street) every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for residents in the affordable housing units surrounding Fire HQ.

Mask Giveaway

The City of Stamford will host a mask giveaway on Sunday, December 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stamford High School (55 Strawberry Hill Avenue).

  • Residents are reminded Stamford Public Schools offers the Grab and Go program, providing free meals to those under 18.

  • Stamford's Downtown Special Services District announced the Stamford Downtown Card — a community-based digital gift card that makes it fun and easy to keep local spending local. The Stamford Downtown Card is ONE card that can be redeemed at many of your favorite  downtown businesses.

  • Connecticut’s Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) helps low-income homeowners and renters pay their heating bills. To qualify, you must make below 60% of the median income or $72,394 for a family of four.

State

  • Governor Ned Lamont updated Connecticut residents on the state’s response to the winter storm currently impacting the region. The State Emergency Operations Center has been activated in a virtual capacity since Wednesday evening to monitor the impacts to the state and respond as necessary.

  • Governor Ned Lamont announced Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol would be activated beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 and lasting through 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18.
  • The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and private nonprofit organizations in Connecticut as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias in August 2020.
  • Applicants may apply online at DisasterLoanAssistance.sba.gov.
  • Step Up Connecticut is looking for healthy and able residents, 18years or older to step up and assist in the fight against COVID-19.
  • Assistance includes substitute teachers, testing site colunteers, etc. Learn more at ct.gov/StepUpCT.
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced the Connecticut COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Group’s Science Subcommittee has submitted recommendations to him that the state’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan start at the earliest opportunity.

  • Due to Winter Storm Gail, garbage and recycling pickup have been delayed one day. Thursday pickup will occur on Friday. Friday pickup will occur on Saturday.

  • Drainage to continue on Largo Drive this week.
  • Paving to begin on Lindale Street, Highland Road, and Hillcrest Avenue after the snow storms.

Schools

  • Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero released a message with more details concerning the transition to full distance learning.
  • Superintendent Dr. Lucero released her weekly message to the community last Friday, announcing a temporary transition to full distance teaching and learning beginning December 21.
  • School buildings are expected to reopen on January 19.Stamford Public Schools was featured on NBC News for being the first district in the U.S. to bring The Blues and Beyond to the classroom.

Drive by Toy Drive

Stamford Fire Department and Local 786 are hosting a drive-through toy drive on Friday, December 18 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, December 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Stamford Fire Department Headquarters (629 Main Street).

New, unwrapped toys, gift cards, and wrapping supplies are accepted.

The City of Stamford will host a COVID-19 Situation Update Livestream on Tuesday, December 22 at 6 p.m.
