COVID-19 Updates

Case Numbers

  • Today — March 4 — Stamford has 13,157 confirmed cases. Last week —February 25 — Stamford had 12,880 confirmed cases. These numbers suggest Stamford has had 277 new cases in the past week, roughly 40 new cases per day on average. The City of Stamford has compiled a visualization of data up to March 2.
  • Residents can read daily updates on new cases in Stamford by visiting the State of Connecticut’s dedicated website for COVID-19 updates located here: https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/COVID-19-Data-Tracker.
  • Daily updates are also provided on Channel 79 for Optimum subscribers.
  • Residents can check Yale University’s COVID-19 Wastewater Tracker as an early indicator of more cases: https://yalecovidwastewater.com/

Vaccine rollout

  • The State of Connecticut is using an age-based vaccination rollout. The full schedule is available here, currently eligible residents include:
  • This phase includes:
  • Healthcare personnel,
  • Long-term care facility residents,
  • Medical first responders,
  • Individuals 55 and older,
  • Residents and staff of select congregate settings.
  • On February 22nd, the Governor announced a tentative schedule for future eligibility:
  • March 22, 2021: Expands to age group 45 to 54
  • April 12, 2021: Expands to age group 35 to 44
  • May 3, 2021: Expands to age group 16 to 34

  • Did you schedule at Stamford Health? Stamford Health has a policy of calling every resident who has their appointment canceled by weather. If you have not been called, please call their phone assist line at 203.276.7300.
  • Did you schedule at a site other than Stamford Health? Please call 877.918.2224 (or "211" if you are in Connecticut) to reschedule.

Stamford COVID-19 testing sites:

  • Free testing sites, no insurance necessary:
  • CIC Health. 845 Canal Street. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are recommended, but some walk-ins are accepted. Schedule an appointment online. Results generally within 24 – 36 hours.
  • Sema4. Located in Stamford High School’s Hillandale Avenue parking lot every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Schedule change: Starting Sunday, March 7th, Sema4 will operate three days a week. Saturdays/Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm. Wednesdays from 3 pm to 7 pm. 
  • Community Health Center. Cove Island Park and Scalzi Park. Open every day, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Family Centers. 60 Palmer’s Hill Road. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-register online or walk in with no appointment.
  • Other testing sites, generally covered by insurance (check with your provider):
  • DOCS Urgent Care. 2001 West Main Street. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule an appointment online or call 203.658.8291.
  • Stamford Hospital. Operated by Stamford Health. Open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule an appointment by calling 203.276.3300. Must have a doctor’s order faxed.
  • Tully Health Center. Operated by Stamford Health. Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule an appointment by calling 203.276.3300. Must have a doctor’s order faxed.
  • AFC Urgent Care. 3000 Summer Street. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Yale New Haven Health. 260 Long Ridge Road. Schedule an appointment online.
  • CVS Health. 1938 W Main Street, 229 Hope Street and 969 High Ridge Road. Drive-thru testing. Schedule an appointment online.

Community

  • The COVID-19 Vaccine is available to veterans of all ages enrolled with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at select pop-up clinics.

  • The City’s new website launch has a new date of Tuesday, March 16.
  • In the previous newsletter we announced the new website would launch March 2. The launch was delayed.
  • The web address will remain the same (www.stamfordct.gov).
  • Many webpages will use the same URL, though some pages may redirect to an updated version of the page on the new website.
  • For example, www.stamfordct.gov/vaccine will still take visitors to the page for vaccine information in Stamford.
  • Alternatively, pages like https://www.stamfordct.gov/road-maintenance may redirect to a new page such as www.stamfordct.gov/road-paving. Please update bookmarks or favorites to avoid broken links.
  • Many residents get to the City’s website by searching for it through Google (or other search engines). When any website is updated, search engines like Google may have a delay in updating its search results. If you cannot find our website through a search engine, remember you can always visit www.stamfordct.gov directly.
  • Rep. Patricia Billie Miller (D) won the March 2nd special election to serve as State Senator for Connecticut’s 27th Senate District.
  • As a result of this election, there will be an additional special election for Connecticut’s 145th House District.

State

  • Governor Lamont announced in the coming days he plans to revise some requirements that were implemented in Connecticut in the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly when it comes to those relating to capacity levels and travel restrictions.
  • The Governor’s Office said the following protocols would remain in effect until further notice:
  • Face coverings and masks continue to be required
  • Bars that only serve beverages continue to remain closed
  • 11PM closing time remains in place for events at venues, restaurants, and entertainment
  • Indoor theaters continue to have a 50% capacity
  • Large event venues (e.g. stadiums) to open in April
  • Governor Lamont announced he has accepted the recommendation of the Connecticut State Board of Education to appoint Charlene Russell-Tucker to serve as acting commissioner of the Connecticut State Department of Education, following the resignation of Miguel Cardona who was confirmed earlier this week by the U.S. Senate to serve as secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.

Schools

  • Stamford Public Schools is planning a return to full-time-in-person learning now that COVID-19 is in line with the CDC’s school recommendations.
  • Elementary Hybrid students will be the first group brought back to full-time-in-person learning, followed by Middle School Hybrid Students.
  • Planning for the return of High School and APPLES Pre-K students is ongoing.
  • SPS will be holding Listening Sessions for any staff, family, or students to address any outstanding concerns. A full list of Listening Sessions is available here.
  • Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero released her weekly message to the district on Friday, February 26.
