Executives and employees from NBCUniversal’s (NBCU) Stamford Media Center (SMC) read to students at Toquam Magnet Elementary School today as part of United Way of Western Connecticut’s (UWWC) Annual “Business-to-Books” Read-a-thon program.
Tracie Wilson, SVP of Programming and Development, and a team of SMC employees read to kindergarten and first grade students at Toquam Magnet School. This marks the ninth year that NBCU has participated in the “Business-to-Books.”
“NBCUniversal has been lucky to work with local partners like UWWC that champion community relationships between businesses and residents,” said Wilson. “Year after year, we embrace every opportunity to give back to this community through initiatives like ‘Business-to-Books.”
“Taking the time to visit and promote literacy with these students is truly a cherished tradition for the SMC team,” Wilson added. “After spending nearly a decade in Stamford and collaborating with UWWC, NBCU could not be happier to visit our old friends at Toquam today.”
“United Way business partners like NBCUniversal took time out of their busy schedules to read to more than 1,800 children in Stamford Public Schools today,” said Bridget Fox, Chief Impact Officer. “We are lucky to work in a city with so many committed corporate partners who recognize the value of giving back to their community.”
In January 2002 United Way, recognizing the critical importance of promoting volunteerism in the community, worked with its corporate partners to launch the “Business-to-Books” Read-a-thon program. The program is designed to enhance public education by increasing community volunteerism in the schools.
