Senior Men’s Association of Stamford to Receive SilverSource Contribution To Community Award

The Senior Men’s Association of Stamford will be honored with a SilverSource Contribution To Community Award at the 4th Annual SilverSource Inspiring Lives Benefit Luncheon featuring New Yorker cartoonist and author Roz Chast on November 7th.

The SilverSource Contribution to Community Award is presented to an individual, organization or business in recognition of their significant contributions to the quality of life for older adults in this region, and significant community enhancements that make this a great place to live and retire.

The Senior Men’s Association of Stamford (SMAS), now in its 32nd year, is a nonprofit educational organization for men ages 55+. The organization promotes friendly association, intellectual and physical stimulation, community service and outreach. Through weekly meetings with informative speakers, engaging discussions, community service and special events, this group of nearly 250 members come together to form friendships and create more satisfied and fulfilled lives.

“In addition to fostering engagement and fellowship, this organization looks outward to improve the lives of seniors in the community,” said Kathleen Bordelon, Executive Director of SilverSource. “Their ‘Songsters’ group brings music and joy to seniors at up to 20 annual appearances throughout Fairfield County, and many members assist in tax preparation for seniors and low income Stamford residents. This organization exemplifies the intent of this award.”

“Everybody feels very honored to receive this award,” said Bob Loop, President of SMAS. “I think it’s a tribute to our organization and a tribute to SilverSource in being able to work with organizations like ours and recognize what’s happening in the senior community of Stamford.”

The 4th Annual SilverSource Inspiring Lives Benefit Luncheon will take place from 11am – 2pm on November 7th at Serafina at the IC, 1620 Newfield Avenue in Stamford, CT. Roz Chast, author and renowned cartoonist for “The New Yorker,” will share insights from her award-winning memoir, Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? (Bloomsbury, 2014), a graphic novel portraying Chast’s own experiences with her aging parents.

Visit https://silversource.org to purchase tickets, which begin at $150. Proceeds will provide essential funds to improve the quality of life of older adults and provide critical financial assistance for those in great need of community support.

Gene Rubino, founder of Plaza Realty & Management Corporation, will serve as honorary event chair alongside co-chairs, Adele Gordon and Polly Rauh. SilverSource would like to thank its media sponsor, Stamford Magazine/Moffly Media.
