Stamford EMS Volunteers Honored at Appreciation Dinner

Stamford EMS held its annual volunteer appreciation dinner January 10th at Madonia’s restaurant to honor the service of their 27 volunteer emergency medical personnel.

“Our volunteers are crucial to our success as an organization,” said Patricia Squires, Stamford EMS Chief and C.E.O. “These dedicated men and women make a difference in our community every day, and help us continue to deliver the best care possible.”

To honor their service, Squires and Volunteer Coordinator Captain Malcolm Dean, Jr. presented challenge coins to ten new volunteers. New member ‘challenge coins’ were presented to: Kristin Miller, Caroline Alfen, Ginger Warren, Allen Arbuckle, Izabella Horzempa, William Gold, Kirk Maclennan, Todd Azadian, Daniel Garcia and Jennifer Osher.

Presidential Service Awards were presented to the volunteers for their hours of service and special awards were given to four exceptional volunteers.

EMT Mark Fisher received the Chief’s Coin for his work in teaching other EMTs and fundraising for the organization. An Outstanding Volunteer Service plaque was given to EMR Yesenia Rivera for her exceptional dedication, and the Captain's service plaque was given to Carina Reid and Robert Van Kueran.  In addition to regular volunteer hours, Reid frequently volunteers for standby service at community events, and Van Kueran, who has volunteered with Stamford EMS since 2014, takes on additional hours assisting with administrative duties.

“There’s nothing like volunteering with Stamford EMS,” said Van Kueran, who has been a volunteer with many EMS, Fire and other community organizations for over 55 years. “This group is tops, and working with them is unbelievably satisfying. If you’re looking to learn better ways to help people with their medical issues, this is the place.”
