Scholarships Available for High School Seniors in Stamford

Two scholarships available for students who demonstrated exceptional volunteerism
during their high school careers

United Way of Western Connecticut is seeking applications for its annual Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes seniors attending any Stamford high school (public or private) who have volunteered extensively in the Stamford community over the course of their high school careers.

This year, two outstanding seniors will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their continuing education. Students must be nominated by school guidance counselor, staff from a local nonprofit, or a member of a local church or synagogue. Students are encouraged to work with nominators on their applications.

Applications are due by Friday, March 5th at 1 p.m. and all applications are to be completed online. The Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship Applications can be found at United Way’s website: https://www.uwwesternct.org/heart-gold-scholarship-application

Scholarship winners will be announced at United Way’s annual Heart of Gold Award Dinner, which will be held this year on May 8, 2019 at the Loading Dock in Stamford.

ABOUT UNITED WAY OF WESTERN CONNECTICUT

United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) improves the lives of hard-working, struggling households by mobilizing the resources of local communities to create lasting change. We help residents across Northern Fairfield County, Southern Litchfield County and the City of Stamford by focusing on the vital building blocks for a good life: Education, Financial Stability and Health. We are committed to ensuring that every child enters school ready to learn, every family is financially stable, and every community we serve is healthy and strong. We are particularly focused on a population that United Way identifies as ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) in our communities. A United Way report published in September 2018 revealed that in Connecticut, more than 1 in 3 households has earnings above the Federal Poverty Level, but below a basic cost-of-living threshold. Combined with those who are struggling below poverty level, 40% of all households in the state are experiencing financial hardship. By leveraging the collective power of the community, we are focused on creating an environment where individuals and families are self-sufficient and can achieve financial independence.
