“The LAA Sketchbook Project” Exhibition at Stamford Loft Artists Gallery

In Collaboration with Purchase College  March 2 – March 24, 2019

Opening Reception Saturday, March 2, 5 - 7 pm

The Loft Artists Association is pleased to present its first Annual Sketchbook Project; a collective exhibition curated by artist, Michael Wagner, and in partnership with Purchase College. The exhibit will run from March 2 – March 24, 2019 at the Loft Artists Galleries, 575 Pacific Street, Stamford, CT. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 5 – 7 PM. This format driven exhibition features over 40 artists with a vast range artistic styles and mediums, delving into the unique world of the artist sketchbook. The exhibition is making its debut at The Loft Artist Association in Stamford Connecticut and then will move to Purchase College. Featuring both emerging and established artists, the exhibition is a unique display of intimacy and variety, in which artists are provided with a 5”x8.5” sketchbook in order to create an original piece of art within the pages of the book.

About the exhibition, curator Michael Wagner explains that “the show is a tribute to the process behind all works of art. The use of the sketchbook has been a source of freedom, exploration and experimentation for artists for centuries. Artistic development often occurs in a quiet, intimate space and the sketchbook is a safe place to think visually, to record and explore new ideas. This show serves as an opportunity for visitors to understand the intimate visual dialogue an artist experiences within oneself when thinking creatively. Each sketchbook is a sneak peek at the individual voice and expression that exists, free from the confines of the expectations of the canvas. A sketchbook is mobile, accessible and easy and because of that, it is honest.”

For over 40 years, the Loft Artists Association has operated as a non-profit organization dedicated to building connections within Fairfield County’s visual arts community and exposing the public high-quality contemporary art. The organization has a membership of over 40 highly skilled, established and emerging professional artists. Their community events attract thousands of visitors throughout the tri-state area and have been recognized by funding agencies, including the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, corporate and private sponsors, the City of Stamford and by visitors who return year after year. For additional information contact loftartistassociation@gmail.com or visit loftartists.org

The mission of the LAA is to provide artists with a supportive environment, opportunities to exhibit their work, and networking opportunities while reaching out to the community at large with education and artistic expression. LAA members exhibit their work locally, nationally, and internationally.
