Stamford Senior Center To Honor Donna Spellman

The Stamford Senior Center will honor Donna Spellman, Executive Director of River House Adult Day Center at their ‘Lives Blossom’ fundraiser on Thursday, April 30. The beloved annual tradition will take place at the Stamford Marriot Hotel from 6pm – 8:30pm.

For the past five years, Donna Spellman has led River House, an adult day care and healthcare facility that serves the Greenwich and Stamford community. Six days a week, attendees come to the center to participate in engaging activities, socialize and receive compassionate care. The organization is a safe haven for caregivers, knowing that healthcare is provided to loved ones while their quality of life is enhanced.

Spellman has dedicated her career to human services in the lower Fairfield County area for thirty years. Prior to coming to River House, she spent 19 years at Family Centers where she developed programs to assist vulnerable populations within the Greenwich and Stamford communities.

“To be able to do the kind of work where you make a real difference in people’s lives is very humbling. I don’t see it as work,” said Spellman. “People come to River House and magic happens because people are stimulated, and they meet friends, and like the Stamford Senior Center, they have purpose, a reason to get up in the morning.”

Spellman’s commitment goes steps beyond others. An avid runner and advocate for aging adults, she runs daily during summer months, each day wearing a picture of a client. The initiative, now in its third year, has spread to board member participation and has raised over $10,000 for adult daycare scholarships to date.

“We are thrilled to honor Donna for her dedication to improving the lives of seniors,” said Christina Crain, Executive Director of the Stamford Senior Center. “Her efforts allow those who wish to live independently to remain active members of the community and provide caregivers peace of mind. That is work that makes a difference and is worth celebrating.”

Tickets are on sale now for the Lives Blossom fundraiser, which raises critical funds for the Stamford Senior Center’s wide array of active and engaging programming. This enjoyable evening is filled with networking, cocktails, plentiful hors d’oeuvres, a lively silent auction and support for the nearly 900 seniors who depend upon the organization.
