Stamford Senior Center To Honor Roberta Eichler

Community leader Roberta Eichler will be honored by the Stamford Senior Center at their annual ‘Lives Blossom’ fundraiser on Thursday, April 30. The Stamford Senior Center Board Member will take the stage as the organization pays tribute to her efforts to serve seniors in our community.

A Connecticut native who moved to Stamford when she married, Eichler began her career as a Kindergarten teacher. Upon raising her children, she volunteered for the American Heart Association, and was soon offered a chapter director position.

Eichler’s connection with the Stamford Senior Center began when she became executive director of the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County. In that role, which she held for twenty-one years, she led the organization to place hundreds of volunteers each year, filling the needs of nonprofit organizations and local businesses. Upon retirement, the Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Youth Scholarship was established, today managed by the United Way of Western Connecticut.

“When people retire, they don’t know what to do with themselves,” said Eichler. “If you just stay home, you’ll age rapidly. It’s very important to stay active.”

And that’s just what she did. Drawing on her knowledge of area organizations, Eichler increased her volunteer activities and chose to join the Stamford Senior Center board in 2012.

“The Stamford Senior Center is a place for everyone. It’s a welcoming environment with lively activities–a good place to meet people and socialize,” said Eichler. “It also solves community problems, providing transport to a food panty for those that are food insecure and vouchers for bus travel for those who need it. It’s an important place and I’m eager to help the organization grow.”

“We are grateful to Roberta for her dedication and service to seniors in our community, and look forward to honoring her for a lifetime of extraordinary work,” said Christina Crain, Executive Director of the Stamford Senior Center.

Tickets are on sale now for the Lives Blossom fundraiser, which raises critical funds for the Stamford Senior Center’s wide array of active and engaging programming. The beloved annual tradition will take place at the Stamford Marriot Hotel from 6pm – 8:30pm, and is filled with networking, cocktails, plentiful hors d’oeuvres, a lively silent auction and support for the nearly 900 seniors who depend upon the organization.
