Greenwich Hospital marks cancer survivorship with virtual celebration

Greenwich Hospital’s annual cancer survivorship celebration will take place virtually this year as part of the inaugural 2020 Smilow Cancer Hospital National Cancer Survivorship Day event. The month-long virtual event will feature informational videos and a live panel of survivorship experts.

The public is invited to visit www.yalecancercenter.orgdaily from June 8 - June 12 for new videos focusing on nutrition, integrative medicine, exercise, mental health and more. The videos will be posted on the Smilow Cancer Hospital YouTube page and through social media. Additional video content will be added periodically after June 12. The event will close with a live virtual panel of survivorship experts (date to be determined) to answer questions, which can be submitted in advance to CancerAnswers@yale.edu.

Greenwich Hospital’s annual cancer survivorship celebration typically brings together more than 100 cancer survivors and oncology staff from the region. This year’s event is taking place virtually due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.

“Although we miss coming together in person, this new virtual celebration is an opportunity to share the experience with cancer survivors and supporters throughout the community,” said Heather Studwell, oncology survivorship coordinator at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich.

The celebration began on National Cancer Survivorship Day (June 7) with an opening ceremony featuring a welcome from Charles Fuchs, MD, MPH, director of Yale Cancer Center and Tara Sanft, MD, medical director, Yale Cancer Center Survivorship Clinic.
