Stamford residents are reminded City playgrounds are still closed.
Playgrounds were closed by Mayor David Martin in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Playgrounds are high-touch surfaces used by young children who are likely to neglect proper health guidelines. Additionally, there are a number of logistical difficulties for sanitizing outdoor playgrounds.
City playgrounds have signs and caution tape around them to indicate they are closed. These signs may be torn down or damaged by the weather, but the playground is still closed. Signs and tape are maintained/replaced on a regular basis.
Justice of the Peace
Town Clerk Lyda Ruijter announced applications for “Justice(s) for Peace” are now available for citizens who are not affiliated with a major political party. Justices for Peace serve four-year terms. This upcoming term begins January 4, 2021 and ends January 6, 2025.
Eligible citizens must have been registered to vote since May 1, 2020 and are either registered as unaffiliated or with a minor political party (any party other than Democrat or Republican).
Interested citizens can email townclerk@stamfordct.gov to receive an application form. Applications must be received between August 1 and November 1.

Governor Ned Lamont announced the launch of business.ct.gov – an online, one-stop-shop where entrepreneurs can easily find information and quickly create a checklist with everything required to start up or manage their business in Connecticut. The online service will make it easier to do business in the state, support small business owners as a partner in their success, and improve citizens’ interactions with state government. Governor Ned Lamont announced that his administration is launching the Everybody Learns initiative: a $43.5 million investment in remote learning solutions to close the digital divide in Connecticut and empower students across the state to learn from home, especially as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues impacting the country.
The funding will be used to purchase 50,000 laptops for students, 12 months of access to at-home internet for 60,000 students, create public hotspots free to the public at 200 community sites across the state, and offer social emotional learning content to school districts statewide.
