SilverSource, Inc., the nonprofit agency providing services and resources for older adults in the Stamford area, recently named Stamford resident and retired dentist Thomas Getreuer, DDS, MAGD, as the Chairman of its Board of Directors. Getreuer has served on the SilverSource Board since 2013, and also serves as Chair of the Stamford Health Commission. He recently retired from a 40-year distinguished career as a dentist in Stamford.
“Due to his many years of involvement in the Stamford Health Commission, Tom has a keen understanding of the growing needs of Stamford’s senior population,” said Kathleen Bordelon, SilverSource’s CEO. “We look forward to his leadership, along with our committed board of directors, to guide us in meeting those needs and continuing to provide a safety net to seniors.”
An active supporter of community organizations, Dr. Getreuer is also past president of both the Stamford Dental Society and Stamford Rotary Club. A graduate of Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery, his career has been highlighted by a dedication to continuing education. He attained Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2000 and has attained Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in July 2011.
“We are filling an incredibly vital role in the community,” said Dr. Getreuer. “COVID-19 is the best example of how SilverSource can switch gears on a dime and assist local seniors. Once the pandemic hit, the needs of this most vulnerable population changed overnight and getting groceries was suddenly life-threatening. SilverSource, with the help of a team of volunteers, quickly jumped into action and more than 135,000 meals have been delivered to date.”
