City of Stamford Update: COVID Vaccine Information,Testing, Radon, and More

Vaccine

Senior residents 75 years old or older can now get vaccinated through the City of Stamford’s Department of Health. Qualifying residents must sign up to get vaccinated in Stamford by filling out this form. Vaccination availability is subject to the number of vaccines delivered to Stamford by the State Department of Public Health.

Radon Testing

The City of Stamford Department of Health urges Stamford residents to test their homes for radon gas, the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.

Homeowners in Stamford may make an appointment to pick up a free radon air testing kit at the Department of Health. To make an appointment to obtain a test kit (while supplies last) or for any additional questions regarding radon please call 203-977-5840 or email StamfordENVHLTH@stamfordct.gov.

Stamford testing sites:

  • Community Health Center. Cove Island Park and Scalzi Park. Open every day, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Family Centers. 60 Palmer’s Hill Road. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-register online or walk in with no appointment.
  • Optimus Healthcare. UConn Stamford. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Closed Monday, January 18 and Wednesday, January 20.
  • DOCS Urgent Care. 2001 West Main Street. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule an appointment online or call 203.658.8291.

  • AFC Urgent Care. 3000 Summer Street. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • CVS Health. 1928 W Main Street, 229 Hope Street and 969 High Ridge Road. Drive-thru testing. Schedule an appointment online.
  • Additional testing availability:
  • Sema4. Located in Stamford High School’s Hillandale Avenue parking lot every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Accessible Pharmacy offers in-home testing for blind, low vision, elderly, veteran, and disabled residents. Schedule an appointment online or call 215.799.9900.
  • Community Health Center Pop-Up Testing at Fire Headquarters (629 Main Street) every Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • There will be a pop-up testing event operated by Concerned Clergy Coalition, NAACP, Charter Oaks and Sema4 on Saturday, January 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 215 Stillwater Avenue. Testing is free and masks will be handed out.

  • The City of Stamford is now providing an additional resource for receiving immediate updates on the availability of COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics: the City of Stamford Health Newsletter.
  • Residents can sign up for the CoS Health Newsletter by visiting https://www.stamfordct.gov/subscribe, typing in their email and clicking “Health Information” to receive emailed updates on testing site and vaccination clinic availability.
  • Please note this newsletter does not follow a set schedule and will send email alerts as more information becomes available.

State

  • Governor Ned Lamont announced Phase 1B of Connecticut’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout will begin on Monday, January 18, 2021, and residents in the state over the age of 75 can now schedule appointments to receive the vaccine.
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced he has received notification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that the request he made in September 2020 for a federal major disaster declaration in response to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Isaias has been approved for all eight counties in Connecticut, including the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes.
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced an executive order he signed last month expanding eligibility in the federal Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) Program has resulted in 22,837 unemployed Connecticut residents receiving an additional $35 million in federal payments over the last several weeks.

  • Governor Ned Lamont announced COVID Alert CT, Connecticut’s COVID-19 exposure notification app, has been activated on more than one million mobile devices – reaching roughly one-third of the state’s population, which is among the highest activation rates in the country.

Services & Schools

Services

  • Stamford's garbage and recycling collection will continue uninterrupted on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 18.
  • The Transfer Station and Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center will be closed and will reopen on Tuesday, January 19.
  • City crews have completed leaf pickup for this season. Some properties will be revisited in the coming week to pick up leaves that were blocked due to parked vehicles.
  • If you have leaves at your property, please move parked vehicles to ensure city crews can access the leaves for pickup.
  • Christmas Tree pickup is anticipated to begin in late January. More details will be provided soon.
  • 2021 Residential Parking Permits will be enforced starting on Monday, January 18. 
  • Permits must be displayed by hanging them from the rearview mirror of the vehicle's windshield.
  • Residential Parking Permits can be purchased for $15 per permit at the Cashiering & Permitting Department on the ground floor of the Stamford Government Center at 888 Washington Boulevard.

  • Under Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 9R, the City of Stamford is again offering the deferment of local property taxes to provide relief to those financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Taxes due on January 1, 2021 may be deferred for a total of 90 days, which is 60 days beyond the normal grace period. The last day to pay without penalty is April 1, 2021.

Schools

  • Grab & Go meal locations will be closed on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 18. On Friday, January 15, four-day meal kits will be available for all children 18 years of age and younger. 
  • Superintendent Dr. Lucero released a message to the community on January 8 regarding COVID-19 Vaccinations and other Stamford Public Schools updates.

  • Stamford’s COVID-19 Situation Update Livestream is hosted every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Residents can visit this link to see the livestream or archives of previous livestreams. The livestream is also accessible on the City of Stamford’s Facebook page.
  • The State Department of Transportation will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the proposed State Project No. 0056-0316: Resurfacing, Bridge Rehabilitation and Safety Improvements on I-95 in the town of Greenwich and city of Stamford on Thursday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Stamford Downtown is accepting proposals for its upcoming outdoor art exhibit, the Piano Project, Art in Public Places in Stamford Downtown.
  • The Piano Project is an interactive exhibit that will bring both art and music to the streets of Stamford Downtown. Artists, through a juried selection process, will paint and decorate upright pianos that will be on display all summer for the public to interact and play.
