Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Catherine Richardson, Connecticut Realtor!

Three questions with Catherine Richardson.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business so that I could be flexible and available to raise my daughter as a single mother.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Listing and selling homes! You can view my current listings here.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

The local businesses that I support while running my business include Keough's Hardware Store (keys and any other items needed to spruce up and/or repair a home that I am selling). I also support local restaurants (Capriccios, Bar Rosso, Fish, Siena) when I meet clients or buy closing gifts. I support Cost-less Wines and Liquors for celebratory champagne and closing gifts and I support local grocery stores like Trader Joe's to purchase food for open houses. I also order plants and flowers from "Planted" for both closing gifts and to add a burst of color to a home that I am marketing.

Catherine nominates Planted - "I recommend Julia Regan and her partner Marion and their business "Planted".
