Creativity Connects Stamford

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Stamford?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good.

Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Stamford.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Patricia Rattray, Realtor, Small Business Consultant and Community Leader

Is there a person or organization using creativity to provoke change in Stamford?

Our Downtown Special Services District organizes a public art exhibit every year. This year it is "The Piano Project, Art in Public Places in Stamford Downtown." Artists, through a juried selection process, will paint and decorate upright pianos that will be put in place for anyone to play throughout Stamford's downtown area June through August and encourages participation from everyone.

Any place in town where you go for inspiration and creativity?

I find inspiration at Scalzi Park and the local Cafes, like Humbled, Turning Point and Honey Joe's. The diversity of Stamford is evident in these places and you will always hear innovation at work.

Is there an organization in Stamford that makes you feel good?

Stamford Partnership!  They work hard to move Stamford forward so we stay attractive and competitive with other growing second-tier cities in the US. The Partnership has been at the forefront in initiating UConn’s expansion and relocation to downtown Stamford, providing free public WiFi, producing Stamford Innovation Week, reimagining our mobility strategy, and fostering Stamford Downtown, Mill River Park Collaborative, Stamford Chamber of Commerce, Waterside Coalition, East Side Partnership, and many other organizations. Here's their website here.

Finish this sentence: When I think of creativity in town I think of …

...I think of the small-scale developers who work to beautify and add diverse housing and architecture to our neighborhoods. I also think of the Stamford Historical Society and how they bring our rich history to life through their storytelling events.

How does creativity connect you to Stamford?

Creativity can be a source of conversation and common ground that allows us to make unexpected connections and strengthen relationships. This builds the social capital we all need to be successful and thrive.

I am really passionate about building strong neighborhoods and communicating the importance of the arts is critical for this.
