Creativity Connects Stamford: Meet Eugenie Diserio, Abstract Painter

Creativity Connects Stamford

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Stamford?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good.

Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Stamford.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Eugenie Diserio, abstract painter.

Any place in town where you go for inspiration and creativity?

I go to Chelsea Piers Connecticut pretty much 7 days a week! Fitness is a major part of my life. During lockdown, I became “Zoom fatigued” and isolated. When Chelsea reopened in late June for distanced classes, I was so happy to be able to leave the house everyday for barre, pilates and my beloved yoga. I am a yogi at heart and my “Chakra Series” paintings are on permanent display in their Yoga/Wellness Lounge.

Finish this sentence: When I think of creativity in town I think of …

The amount and depth of artistic talent in our area. I have exhibited in vibrant group shows downtown at Loft Artists Association, Stamford Innovation Week, Stamford Art Association and at their sponsored “Art at The Ferguson” exhibits at the Ferguson Library. I also had a solo show REBOOT to launch 2020 in The Mayor's Gallery at the Stamford Government Center. I look forward to having live openings again to bring all my art comrades together again!

How does creativity connect you to Stamford?

Creativity means many things but ultimately it’s to enhance a community’s quality of life. My son, an urban planning major, also works in the city’s Department of Traffic, Transportation and Parking. Now, through his passion and creativity, whenever I see a new sidewalk, bike lane or really efficient turning lane, I think that’s a safe, creative flow of traffic. His team also developed “StrEATeries” - the expanded outdoor eating spaces last summer, allowing the people of the city to be able to safely socialize and reconnect again.

Last but not least, Stamford’s parks, beaches, and coastline inspire the natural creativity in all of us.
