Stamford’s Director of Health Dr. Jennifer Calder and City Medical Advisor Dr. Henry Yoon released a joint statement today addressing the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson (J&J). Click here to read the statement.  

Mayor David Martin announced the City of Stamford sold $44 million of refunding bonds, capturing a total of $5.8 million in future budget savings or 11.4% of the bonds refunded. The return was well in excess of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) benchmark of 2%. To read the whole release click here

Case Numbers

Today — April 29— Stamford has 15,546 confirmed cases. Last week — April 22  — Stamford had 15,384 confirmed cases. These numbers suggest Stamford has had 162 new cases in the past week, roughly 23 new cases per day on average. The City of Stamford has compiled a visualization of data up to April 27.

Vaccine Rollout

The State of Connecticut is using an age-based vaccination rollout. The full schedule is available here, currently eligible residents include:

  • Healthcare personnel,
  • Long-term care facility residents,
  • Medical first responders,
  • Individuals 16 and older
  • Residents and staff of select congregate settings.

  • CIC Health. 845 Canal Street. Open Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 6:45 pm. Open Fridays from 8 am to 7:45 pm. Open Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm. Appointments are recommended, but some walk-ins are accepted. Schedule an appointment online. Results within 24-36 hours.
  • Sema4. Located in Stamford High School's Hillandale Avenue Parking lot every Wednesday from 3 pm to 7 pm. Saturday to Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm.
  • Community Health Center. Cove Island Park and Scalzi Park. Open every day, 8:30 am to 4 pm. Testing is first come, first serve.
  • Family Centers. 60 Palmer's Hill Road. Open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3pm. Pre-register online or walk-in with no appointment.

Upcoming free pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinics:

  • Johnson & Johnson at Cove Island Park on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday May 2 from 10 am to 4 pm. No registration required.
  • Moderna at Grace Daycare and Learning Center, 369 Washington Boulevard on Sunday May 2 from 2 pm to 5 pm.
  • Pfizer at Stamford YMCA, 10 Bell Street on Monday, May 3 and Friday, May 7 from 10 am to 3 pm. Walk-in or schedule an appointment : Click here for May 3 or here for May 7.

Residents can now get a COVID-19 vaccine at the Department of Health Clinic at 137 Henry Street on Mondays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm as well as Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. No appointment or registration needed.

  • This clinic will administer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. 
  • The Connecticut Restaurant Association is partnering with Governor Lamont and the State of Connecticut to launch the #CTDrinksOnUs campaign, where participating state restaurants will offer complimentary drinks (with food purchase) to patrons with either one or both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine beginning May 19 through May 31.
  • United Way of Western Connecticut has provided Food Guide to view all of the food resources that are currently available to Stamford residents, including pantries, SNAP, school meals, home deliveries and other services.

State & Federal

State

  • Governor Ned Lamont announced beginning Tuesday, April 27, 2021, more than 50 providers of COVID-19 vaccines in Connecticut will no longer require an appointment prior to providing individuals with vaccinations. Connecticut residents will be able walk-up to the clinic and receive a vaccination on-the-spot.

  • The vaccination site at 110 High Ridge Road now offers vaccines without appointments.
  • The vaccination site at 1 Elmcroft Road will offer vaccines without appointments beginning Tuesday, May 4.

Federal

  • The U.S. Federal Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Services (IRS) announced the federal income tax filing due date for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days.

Services

2021 Scofieldtown Yard Recycling Center Monthly Events will begin on May 1 at 55 Rockrimmon Road from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.  

Construction is ongoing in Boccuzzi Park. The basketball court will be permanently closed for public use. The court will be used for construction lay down space, and then eventually removed during road construction. A temporary basketball court will be constructed on the west tennis court within 30 days of the beginning of the building work. During that time, the entire court area may be closed off until complete. The park will be open during construction.

  • Drainage on 5th Street is in progress.

  • Paving on Ursula Place is in progress.

  • Stamford Public Schools’ (SPS) Office of Family and Community Engagement (OFCE) launched a series of free technology classes for parents, guardians and community agencies to help them better support their students and more effectively utilize school and district communications and learning platforms. 
  • Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero released her weekly message to the district on Friday, April 23. 
  • Prom will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 6:00-10:00 p.m., outdoors, at each of our high schools. Seniors will receive specific information directly from their school.

Events

The City of Stamford and Stamford Health will host a virtual town hall on Thursday, May 13 from 7 pm to 7:30 pm. Learn about the science of COVID-19 and vaccine safety from national, state and local experts. Speakers include Dr. Calder (Director of Health, City of Stamford, Dr. Fuller (Virologist on the FDA advisory committee, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan), Dr. Ko (Connecticut Governor's Advisory Group and Department Chair & Professor of Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases) and Infectious Diseases, Yale Medical), and Dr. Parry (Chair of Infectious Diseases, Stamford Health). 

Pianos and artists participating in The Piano Project in Stamford Downtown will be on hand for photography and interviews by appointment only until May 14 at Artist's Studio at 105 Broad Street. Email annette@stamford-downtown.com to set up an appointment.

Kids to Parks Day is on Saturday, May 15 at Scalzi Park from 11 am to 2 pm. All ages welcome, no cost. CDC guidelines and social distancing will be observed.  

The Ferguson Library and Darien Library Present an evening with Bestselling Author Chris Bohjalian in conversation with Cristina Alger. This is a virtual event on Thursday, May 20 at 6 p.m. Click here to register.
