Stamford EMS Celebrates Crew Dedication During National EMS Week

Last week, Stamford EMS commemorated the 46^th annual National EMS Week with a celebration of the important work and dedication of its EMS workers. The independent, nonprofit organization has been serving the emergency medical needs of the Stamford community for nearly 30 years.

“Especially in light of the challenges we faced throughout the pandemic, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the important contributions our EMS practitioners make each day in preserving the health, safety and well-being of the Stamford community,” said Patricia Squires, Chief and CEO of Stamford EMS.

Established in 1974 by then President Gerald Ford, EMS Week is a nationwide effort to acknowledge and thank paramedics, EMTs and the full EMS workforce for their dedicated service and sacrifices.

Stamford EMS held a special appreciation barbeque to celebrate its crew. In addition, Sunrise Assisted Living acknowledged Stamford EMS by providing a lunch, and the City of Stamford issued a proclamation recognizing the organization’s ‘leadership, excellence and dedication to life-saving on-scene medical care which makes the difference between life and death every day in our community.’

“This past year was unlike any other in our history. It was especially important that we show our appreciation for our team’s outstanding professionalism and to honor their selfless commitment to service,” said Squires.

The Stamford EMS annual mid-year appeal is currently underway. The independent nonprofit organization, which responds to over 15,000 calls for emergency care each year, is the only EMS provider in the state to receive accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services–the gold standard in emergency medical care.
