The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members. This weekend, the CT arts and culture scene is bright with events that celebrate Earth Week, concerts that will take you back in time, exciting dance performances, and art exhibits that are bursting with color. Roaring 20s Gala at The Inn at Longshore, Westport 

Friday, April 22 at 7:30 pm

Celebrate and support Westport Museum by stepping back in time to the Jazz Age. Dance to the tunes of the age and sip vintage cocktails with a view of the Long Island Sound at Lewis’ Longshore estate, an inspiration for Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby. Come in costume and pose by a vintage car!

Red Matter at The Bijou Theatre, Bridgeport

Friday, April 22 at 8:00 pm

Don’t miss the jam band (formerly Terrapin) that is quickly becoming one of the brightest up-and-coming bands in the region. Offering an authentic mix of original and cover tunes, they’ve performed over 200 concerts from Virginia to Vermont. This concert is not to be missed!

“Collective Currents” at Wilson Avenue Loft Artists, Norwalk

Friday, April 22 at 6:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday at 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join 17 artists for a 3-day Open Studio multimedia exhibit, curated by Camilla Cook. Artists include Cultural Alliance member artists: Erin Dolan, Heide Follin, Lori Glavin, Nancy McTague-Stock, and Missy Savard. Tour the gallery space and art studios and meet the artists.

 “Decades In Concert: The Spirit of the ’60’s!” at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Bridgeport

Weekends through May 15th

Revisit the sights and sounds of the 1960s! This show tells the story of the history and culture of America from JFK to the Apollo Moon Landing. With a talented cast and pre-recorded music, it will immerse you in nostalgic multimedia experience with songs from The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles and more. Friday, April 22 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, April 23 at 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sunday, April 24 at 5:00 pm 

Ukrainian Wreath Art Installation & Project at Ferguson Library, Stamford

Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 am

Organized by Elena Kalman, AIA, a Stamford architect, public artist and native of Kiev, this public art project highlights the wreath, a traditional Ukrainian symbol of peace, and the blue over yellow in the Ukrainian flag, representing blue skies over golden wheat fields. Enjoy the art installation as well as a hands-on art project.

“Ephemeral Utopia” Artist Reception at Colorblends House & Spring Garden

Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 pm

Meet the artists featured in the exhibition Ephemeral Utopia, curated by Ursa Gallery and inspired by the springtime blooms, at an artist reception. The exhibit showcases the works of eleven artists whose dynamic visions resonate with notions of ephemerality and gesture: Mario Baez, Tara Blackwell, Cris Dam, Paul Eis, Francisco Mandujano, Sooo-z Mastropietro, Sui Park, Christine Romanell, Jeff Schneider, Marlene Siff, and Emily Teall. The exhibition will unfold as a choreographed experience throughout the rooms of the restored 1903 Colonial Revival mansion.

Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra “TITANS” at Anne S. Richardson Auditorium, Ridgefield

The RSO concludes its 2021-22 season with two titans of the orchestral repertoire - Concerto for Violin by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, featuring acclaimed soloist Stefan Jackiw, and Symphony No. 1 by Gustav Mahler.

Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney at Wall Street Theater, Norwalk

Head over for this critically-acclaimed show starring Tony Kishman, veteran of the Broadway hit musical “Beatlemania.” A dynamic full multimedia concert production with a line-up of world class musicians, this show celebrates the music of McCartney and has been hailed by the media as “The Quintessential Paul McCartney.” Tony has performed to audiences worldwide and is regarded by “Beatlemaniacs” as the world’s best McCartney look-alike/sound-alike.

The Norwalk Symphony and the Brubeck Quartet at Norwalk City Hall

Back together again to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Dave Brubeck's birth! Come hear some of your Brubeck favorites - Take 5, Rondo a la Turk, Strange Meadowlark and others! Also on the program are John Williams' Star Wars Suite and Leonard Bernstein's music for "On the Waterfront."

Arbor Earth Day Festival at Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, Stamford 

Sunday, April 24 at 11:00 am

Enjoy a day of learning, growing and celebrating nature in honor of Arbor Day & Earth Day. Activities include a ceremonial tree planting, live music by award-winning band, Bash the Trash, who performs with recycled and repurposed items, kids crafts, greenhouse tours, and more.

Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony at Christ Church, Greenwich

Sunday, April 24 at 4:00 pm

A Tale Through Time, David Baker's jazzy take on Stravinsky's classic musical fable, A Soldier’s Tale, opens this concert. Narrator Edward Pleasant and dancer Olga Suarez-Paz later join the musicians to present the Tale itself in a semi-staged performance. 

The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra at The Ridgefield Playhouse

Sunday, April 24 at 7:00 pm

Back by popular demand! This 18-member ensemble will play many of the original Glenn Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band libraries, plus male and female vocalists will perform some of the greatest generation’s greatest music: “Moonlight Serenade”, “ Little Brown Jug”, “A String of Pearls”, “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000” and many more.
