The Stamford Art Association is pleased to present "4 Visions" at the Mayor’s Gallery. The exhibit explores how different artists view the world through their camera lens. It is also a compendium of the work of artists whose personal views continue to be reshaped by the world around them. It parallels the Stamford Art Association as it moves towards its 50th year - creatively investigating how visions change and resonate.

Life: People are immensely fascinating to photograph, and I enjoy strolling in a city while taking photographs. I look for interesting subjects, gestures, interactions, and moments. Light: Unusual light and strong shadows help me frame or simplify a scene, or show it in an unusual way.  Lines or Design. I like to organize; some say I am a little obsessive about it. Careful framing and an architectural approach to photography help me organize what is often a chaotic scene.  Approach:  When I photograph I try not to be too obvious to avoid disrupting my subjects’ thoughts and actions. On the other hand I am not secretive about it; should someone choose to look in my direction he or she will clearly see that I am busy taking photos.

Carol: I have been taking pictures all my life. As with all interests I need to keep motivated by continued learning, trying new techniques and shaking up my status quo. Living in Stamford and commuting to New York City regularly gives me a chance to get out of my habit of using color and focusing on people. Even when traveling further afield I try to envision different techniques and editing when photographing. I have tried to add a new dimension to my art by trying to take pictures of structures, considering converting them to black and white, using different post processing methods and more recently adding metal framing. These images of City Living/ Black and White Photography are my attempt to change up things from the usual.

Christine: I have had a camera with me since I was 17.  People, structures, landscapes and color and the ability to make a photographic decision based on visual curiosity and experience have always powerfully pushed me.  Coincidences of events and how they appear in an instant give meaning to my work. These images were taken in Skopelos, Greece last summer when I was part of a printmaking workshop.

Greg: Since retiring three years ago, I have devoted my waking hours to my two extracurricular passions: photography and travel.  I have traveled to 15 countries in the past three years.  Some of these journeys have been with other photographers and others with my wife.  I strive to capture “one of a kind” landscapes, but my favorite challenges are “unposed” people shots - sometimes referred to as street photography. My images here today are from my recent travels to Chile, Ethiopia, Mexico, and Namibia.
