Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Walter's Hot Dogs!

Three questions with Katharine Woodward, owner of Walter's Hot Dogs.

Why did you start your business?

We started our business in Stamford in October 2017 because we have a strong customer base in Connecticut. Our flagship location is in Mamaroneck but when we saw the space in Harbor Point, we fell in love with it. It’s the perfect modern version of our “roadside pagoda” and easily accessible to the local community but also a short distance from neighboring CT towns!

What is your best selling product/service?

Our best selling product is our hot dogs! We are famous for our family recipe, a blend of beef, pork and veal, and our signature Walter’s Mustard, that we sell at our locations, but also online and in local supermarkets.

How many people do you employ? Any youth or seniors from the community?

We employ anywhere from 8-15 employees, most of which are youth from the local community, college and high-school kids, and also college graduates who work full-time.

Walter's Hot Dogs is located at 200 Commons Park South, Stamford. They also have locations in Mamaroneck and White Plains. Visit Walter's Hot Dogs online here.
