You're IT Studio KC Interiors.

Three questions with Katie Canfield, owner of Studio KC Interiors.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business in 2015 when I was 23 years old.  I had been doing some freelance work with another designer, and although I always had zero intentions of starting my own business, I tapped into some sort of entrepreneur gene I didn't know I had! I realized that in a creative industry like interior design, you can either build your boss's brand and dream or build your own.  I love what I do! It is a true passion, I eat, sleep and breathe for this work.

Slowly, I referrals flooded in from associates in the industry was mentored by all sorts of other business owners, and Studio KC has blossomed into a full-service interior design firm.

I'm so grateful for everyone who ever took a chance on me, believed in me, and gave me advice.  Studio KC is an interior design firm that plays well with others.  My goal is to help every client's vision come to life, by working closely with the trades to make sure design elements are executed correctly, and that they also make sense to help the home function better.  I want people to fall in love with their home everytime they walk in the door, from the bones of construction, down to the very last throw pillow on their sofa.

I'd like to think Studio KC is a wonderful marriage between construction and decor, I want to be a part of all of it, and that's why I had to start my own adventure of becoming a business owner.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could give back to the community in the way that it has given to me.  This business would be nothing without the support of others.  I have big plans for this small business.  I want Studio KC to be a job creator, and even more.  I would love to employ, mentor and guide other young interior designers, artists, and creatives so that they can go off in their own directions and do what they are passionate about.  I want Studio KC to be a collaborative space for others.  We all have different visions and strengths, I don't like to see anyone as competition.  There is room for everyone at the table.  And at the end of the day, I hope that we can all use our talents to better the community in some way, whether it be to give back financially, or design a more accessible space, or help beautify a neighborhood for those who need it.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

So so so many local businesses!  The design and construction industry is built on a foundation of small businesses.  There are the interior designers who were my first freelance clients that helped guide me to where I am today, Melissa Weyrick and Peyton Cochran.  My construction partners and tradesmen, Homesquare, RSN Interiors, JR Stanley Builders, and Pro Kriss cabinetry to name a few.  Country Reproductions in Stamford handles all of my printing needs.  The interior design trade showrooms, Bella Pietra, Wakefield Design Center, Schwartz Design Showroom and countless independent sales reps. My business relies on these individuals and businesses day in and day out and I couldn't be more grateful to them!
