Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Stamford Balance Chiropractic Studio!

Three questions with Dr. Cristina Poulos, owner of Stamford Balance Chiropractic Studio.

Why did you start your business?

As I progressed through chiropractic school, I always looked forward to the time when I would be able to move back to Stamford to open an inviting practice where I could help families in the local community. I feel so lucky that I’ve already had 5 successful years here, and am so grateful for all of the amazing people we’ve been able to meet throughout that time. Having a holistic and wellness-based approach to chiropractic care enables me to help a wide range of patients, from kids to adults, teenagers, college students, pregnant moms-to-be and athletes.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could let people know that chiropractic is not only about pain! Every day, our brain is relying on feedback from motion of the joints throughout our body. Chiropractic adjustments help keep these important joints moving properly so our brain gets good feedback from all the movement our body is doing throughout the day. This helps to “set the stage” for better health overall. Things that can cause problems to our movement patterns (and in turn, our health) are different types of stresses in our lives: physical stress (like sitting at a desk all day or looking down at your cell phone for long periods of time), emotional stress and chemical stress (like poor food choices). A lot of our patients use regular chiropractic care to help give their body a “reset” to counteract all of these stresses their body gets from day to day.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I’m so lucky to have an amazing network of some really special natural & holistic healthcare providers to collaborate with in order to get the best possible care for our patients. Just a few of these are Sarah Swanberg, an Acupuncturist at Indigo Acupuncture & Wellness (which just so happens to be next door to our office!), Dr. Kelly Livingston, a Naturopathic Physician at Roots Deep Medicine, Rachel Kilpatrick-Hyra, a Physical Therapist/Pilates Instructor at Resolution Wellness, and Carolyn Kagan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Alliance Therapy Practice.

Dr. Cristina Poulos is the owner and chiropractor at Stamford Balance Chiropractic Studio, which is located in the Medical Arts Building at 144 Morgan Street in Stamford. You can find out more about this small business by visiting their website here.
