Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Zapata Marketing Group!

Three questions with Daniel Zapata Vasco, owner of Zapata Marketing Group.

Why did you start your business?

I started Zapata Marketing Group during my teenage years. I have always been very entrepreneurial and found different ways of generating income. During my teenage years, I developed a particular set of skills in digital marketing which allowed me to start my own business. The original goal of Zapata Marketing Group was and is to become a positive symbol in the community by giving back as much as possible. We recently began a small local charity called Meals for Humanity Connecticut; our goal is to provide cooked meals to people who are facing food insecurity in the state of Connecticut. We have plans to continue to grow this charity.  I know what it is like to have nothing so I grew a love for helping those who are less fortunate. You can say I started this business to generate income in order to fund my true dream of bettering the communities across the nation.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could continue to help expand the many local businesses in Connecticut by taking care of their digital marketing efforts, but more importantly, I wish I could continue to help others in my community. I have many plans to help the community come together to create a better space for all. A mentor of mine once told me it is a blessing to share and that has never left my mind.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I don't think I can name all the businesses I use in order to support my business because there are too many. I am always around the city having meetings in restaurants like Hudson; picking up materials for projects at Michael's. I am always trying to involve as many local businesses as I can. I believe if we all work together in the community we can all strive and succeed.
