Edgehill Celebrates 20th Anniversary Milestone

While some celebrate a 20th anniversary with china or platinum, Edgehill senior living community in Stamford heralded its milestone with a nod to nostalgia at a Black and White Ball on July 11, 2019.

The 300-plus guests and residents were greeted with a special performance by Jazz musician Janice Friedman, followed by a cocktail hour filled with camaraderie and conversations about the past 20 years.

“It’s fulfilling knowing residents and families have chosen Edgehill for 20 years and our community continually strives to exceed their expectations,” said Chris Barstein, executive director at Edgehill. “As the industry continues to grow, we’ll continue to examine the needs of the new wave of seniors and accommodate their needs.”

Since opening its doors, Edgehill has served over 1,000 residents and their families. It has provided full- and part-time jobs with benefits for more than 1,000 people, including high school and college students. Many of these students have pursued careers in various fields within the senior housing industry through their opportunity at Edgehill.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 36% of businesses make it 10 years, and only 21% make it to their 20th anniversary.

“We recently moved in our first Baby Boomer, a person who attended Woodstock,” said Barstein. “The next generation of older adults are starting to retire, and they’re doing so in droves. The expectations are changing, and we have our finger on the pulse when it comes to the ever-changing world of senior living.”

To keep up with demand, the community finished a $20 million expansion and renovation in 2017 that included a new memory care wing; a more spacious, upgraded sub-acute rehabilitation center; and upgrades and enhanced independent living residences.

“We’re continuing to meet the needs of current residents, as we have for 20 years,” said Barstein. “We’re also anticipating the needs and preferences of a rapidly growing senior population who may one day call Edgehill home.”
