Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT planted by J&M!

Three questions with Julia Regan, founder of planted by J&M.

Why did you start your business?

We saw an opportunity and a need for people in our area who would like to have plants in their homes but are nervous about how to source them and look after them. The pandemic brought this desire very much into focus. The business allows us to share our love of plants and bring life, well-being, and beauty into people's houses.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our in-home plant consulting and installing; we assess growing conditions and preferred aesthetics at our clients' houses and recommend and source plants of all shapes and styles, along with customized maintenance services as needed. Additionally, we design and install outdoor planters and urns on a one-off or as a seasonal subscription service. We also work with interior designers, realtors, and home stagers to enhance houses on the market.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We very much enjoy working with several nurseries in our community. We have an excellent working relationship with Liz Pensiero Staging and Design. Also with Catherine Richardson, one of the area's top realtors. We retail some of our designs at the very lovely Kahlo wellness boutique in Scotts Corner.
