Why Small Businesses Matter in Stamford: Crazy Confections

Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Crazy Confections!

Three questions with Andrena Forlenzo, founder of Crazy Confections.

Why did you start your business?

I have always been creative and artistic. When I realized that my passion for art, such as painting and sculpting could translate to using food gels and fondant, I was hooked. Crazy Confections started as a joke with some friends while I was simultaneously working in the restaurant industry and earning my Master's Degree in School Counseling.

Decorating quickly became my creative outlet and I had a knack for it. As a lifelong Stamford resident, it is a true pleasure being able to bring happiness and joy to others for their special events. I turned Crazy Confections, LLC, from a hobby into a business with the passing of the CT Cottage Food Law because I could see the demand within Stamford and Fairfield County.

When people want to add a little something special to their events or provide a sweet treat as a gift, I'm their girl! Sharing my craft with others in my community is my "why".

What is your best-selling product/service?

I offer custom cookies, cakes, cake-pops, cupcakes, as well as chocolate drizzled cereal treats and pretzels, but my customer favorite is definitely my cookies! I offer Cookie Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits for decorating, which are also available for parties, as well as custom-designed cookies and holiday preorder offerings.

My customers love to come to me to create a beautiful assortment for their special occasion, but also enjoy the convenience of my preorder sales. I offer the option to also package cookies for gift giving in a special box with a ribbon or to be wrapped as party favors if customers want to take advantage of those services.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

It's really important to me to support other local small businesses, and I'm always excited to see a new one pop up! For my specific needs, I work with Stefanie from Stamford Moms quite often for advertising as well as on options for preorder. Our most recent collaborations were on our Winter Holiday and Spring Cookie Kits. We partnered on both of these with County TV & Appliance, with who I also just made a rather large purchase with, as my new kitchen has a full line of appliances from the County.

When I'm running low on ingredients I often drive down the road to Grade A Shoprite in Shippan. Long days and late nights in the baking business require lots of fuel made possible by Donut Delight, Turning Point Coffee Roasters, and Humbled Coffeehouse. After a long weekend on my feet and squeezing icing bags I try to get to Fancy Nail & Spa in Darien for a chair massage.

Andrena would like to nominate Humbled Coffeehouse and House of Humbled to be featured next!
