Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT SōlHaus!

Three questions with Demetrius Glover, founder of SōlHaus.

Why did you start your business?

I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression since 5 years old. I had limited resources when it came to solutions that treated the root cause until I started my company. Like myself, other young professionals (18-38 years old and a bit older) aren’t provided mental health resources in a way that is fun, effective, and accessible. Therapists are expensive and medication doesn’t always treat the root cause. Our approach is different.

We call it the medicine in the candy; providing in-person and virtual events that combine proven easy-to-learn meditation strategies with professional entertainment (comedy, storytelling classes, cultural dance courses, etc.). Our services are offered to Employee Resource Groups at global corporations and to global conferences.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best-selling service is our one-hour in-person and virtual offering. We start each session with a 10-15 minute easy-to-learn meditation/yoga then roll into a 45-minute form of entertainment (cultural dance class, storytelling course, or Q&A with a hilarious licensed therapist)

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

When COVID hit we had to quickly move from an in-person model that was serving our local community and companies to a virtual model which actually expanded our business to reach a global audience. We utilized online platforms and have been able to become more diverse by partnering with meditation/yoga professionals and entertainers from around the world.

We also began serving Employee Resource Groups which gave us a niche audience. Now we can serve employees and conference attendees both online and in-person.

Demetrius would like to nominate Breno Donatti of Winfield Coffee Shop and Chuck Yun of Scout Adventure to be featured next!
