Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Room for Paws Pet Resort!

Four questions with Carmela and Mitch Kaufman, founders of Room for Paws Pet Resort.

Why did you start your business?

With three dogs and the dilemma of not finding an appropriate facility to care for them, we found ourselves avoiding time away altogether. Room for Paws Pet Resort is the fruition of this passion project, ten years in the making! We wanted to provide a robust, customized, safe, and enriching experience for our furry guests with the right balance of puppy play and human engagement.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our daycare and boarding services are in demand right now as folks want to optimize their last few weeks of summer vacation time. Also, since most pups have been home with remote working pet parents. they are going to need both human and pet socialization time when their parents return to work. We are also very excited to have launched our new grooming spa with two highly qualified groomers who have decades of professional experience!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We love shopping local! We are always looking for new businesses to support.

We use Bronx House Pizza, Springdale Diner, and The Village Table for team lunches every week. Petsupplied for our dog food, Interiors Haberdashery at 72 Camp Ave for our upholstery needs, Upper Deck Fitness to maintain our team's health!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We can't say that we've reimagined our business since we only opened during covid. That said, we believe we have reimagined our industry in executing next-level dog care in our luxury facility. We have the highest pet care specialist to dog ratio in Fairfield County, and our customization of our furry guest's experience truly sets us apart from the status quo.

Our guests stay in a luxury resort that caters to their individual needs and was fully designed with their health, safety, and fun in mind.

Carmela would like to nominate Springdale Diner to be featured next!
