Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Doctor's Orders Baked Goods!

Three questions with Katherine Behar, founder of Doctor's Orders Baked Goods.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My best-selling products definitely change with the seasons and trends. Last winter was all about the hot chocolate bombs! Cake pops and custom cookies seem to be here to stay.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I always choose to support local businesses whenever possible! Turning Point keeps me caffeinated, the Stamford Diner keeps me fueled and all of the amazing vendors at the Stamford Farmers Market keep my baked goods seasonal. When I’m tired and don’t want to bake myself, Matthew’s Bakery is my go-to!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

The plan was always to open a brick-and-mortar shop but with changing needs of customers and struggles small businesses face, the new plan is a food truck! A VW bus to be exact. A friend of mine made me a little model of a food truck as a gift a while back and the plan is to use it as the design.

Katherine would like to nominate Chicos Cocina in Shippan to be featured next!
