Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Indigo Wellness Group!

Four questions with Sarah Swanberg, founder of Indigo Wellness Group.

Why did you start your business?

I fell in love with the way Chinese Medicine looked at the body and wellness after being an acupuncture patient in NYC- after some evaluation of my previous career in the media world, I decided to leave and pursue graduate school in Chinese Medicine.

I always knew I would want to open an integrative style clinic, and started out on my own in 2015 by renting a room in a colleague's space. Over the years we’ve grown to 2 full-time locations with a staff of 5 practitioners of varied disciplines.

What is your best-selling service?

We mostly work in women’s health, and while we treat a lot of women through fertility challenges, pregnancy, and post-party time period, we also see a lot of anxiety and insomnia, particularly in the last year. Our nervous systems are fried, and acupuncture helps provide an amazing reset!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We love to refer to other local colleagues in the health and wellness space, including Alliance Therapy Practice, CT Power Yoga, Haute Sauna, The Center for Functional Medicine, and Countdown fitness. We also frequent local establishments like Lorca and Turning Point Coffee Roasters and are big fans of Green and Tonic and Juice Kings.

Have you “reimagined” your small business?

Covid presented challenges for so many small businesses, especially those of us that need to touch clients and patients! During the shutdown, and our slow reopen, we began to build out a database of online wellness courses and programs and have a series of courses called Hello, Hormones! that are designed to help educate women about their hormones, focusing on fertility and pregnancy.

Sarah would like to nominate CT Power Yoga and Alliance Therapy Practice to be featured next!
