Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT CT Property Network!

Three questions with Deirdre JP Virvo, founder of CT Property Network.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business as a transition from owning an advertising/marketing agency to owning a real estate investment company. Since the age of 23, I have invested all my extra income into real estate, loving the bricks and mortar of the business.

When I decided to make a change, I set out to educate myself, and read everything. I took every class and real estate Bootcamp offered. I started short selling because the market was ripe for that. I soon became the short sale queen, helping more than 100 families a year get out of their debt. I added buying apartment buildings and flipping houses to my business.

My latest venture has been residential senior homes for those that need assisted living and memory care. This is a new passion project of mine. With one house up and running to full capacity, I am looking to expand and purchase more, as I have a long waiting list of residents that are looking for a small, intimate, more affordable environment for their loved ones.

As a local senior specialist and author of two books (my latest: Home To Home, A Step By Step Housing Guide) I also host a weekly Facebook Live and YouTube Channel show called: Let’s Talk Seniors; Memory Care Issues, Dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s every Wednesday at 5 pm. It is an interview format feature local and national experts on the subject of Memory Care issues.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Local businesses that support my business are many!

As I am the general contractor on my fix and flips, I hire all local contractors (and couldn’t do anything without them) including KSM Home Improvement, JDB Painting, Gault, AMS Property Maintenance, Patrick Meenan Electric, Plumtrees Plumbing, MK Tile Studio, Anthony E Schwartz, and Esquire (for my senior business: Just Like Home Care, LLC).

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I wish I could…

Help more people. Open more senior residential homes ASAP. Cure Dementia. Short sale more homes, get more families out of debt and sleeping better. Fix-and-flip houses and beautify more neighborhoods by renovating homes and help people grow wealth and live stress-free lives.

Deirdre would like to nominate Gosha Lesiecka of MK Tile Studio to be featured next!
