Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Tutor Me SOS!

Three questions with Mona Mitri, founder of Tutor Me SOS.

Why did you start your business?

I have a passion for teaching and helping students overcome learning obstacles. In the course of my education, I acquired a good number of helpful skills and tools that I enjoy sharing with my students.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our best service is the ACT/SAT test prep programs. We are honored to have won many awards, including the “Best of Gold Coast.” Our results speak for themselves. On average, our students' ACT scores increase by 8 points and their SAT scores by 250 points.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I have supported a few local businesses including Signs of Success on Hope Street, Camones Painting, and Speed Printing and Graphics.

Of course, I have used services by my students depending on their skills like pictures of my center or for the holidays.

I have also supported the Stamford schools and plays and purchased ads every single time I was asked including ads for school plays, sports, yearbooks, etc.

Mona would like to nominate Carvel on Long Ridge Road in Stamford to be featured next!
