Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Jewels for Hope!

Three questions with Stevie D'Andrea of Jewels for Hope.

Why did you start your business?

Jewels For Hope was founded by Sandy D'Andrea when she was a caregiver to her mother. She would make jewelry and give it to the Hospice nurses who would come through her home. A lightbulb came on in Sandy's head and she thought- I should start selling these pieces and donating a portion to Hospice.

The company was formed - and now Jewels For Hope is a mother/daughter-run company and has branched out to make other gift items while donating to numerous charities through their handcrafted creations.

What is your best-selling product/service?

We have two best-selling items...

1- Our bracelets were worn by Hallmark actor Will Kemp - he's worn them in Girlfriends Guide To Divorce, Netflix's Princess Switch 3, and many more shows.

2- Our Inspirational Wish Bracelets are another big seller - a small, inexpensive gift that spreads happiness to everyone receiving them.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We support as many small/local businesses as we can- including donating to numerous local Connecticut charities through our creations. We donate 10% of the profits of every sale to charity- the local ones consisting of STAR Relief Pet Assistance, Save The Sound, and The Foodbank of Lower Fairfield County.

Along with our donations, personally to help our mind function - we know if we're deep in the creative process of making new pieces, we'll head over to Donut Delight to get some coffee to refuel us for the day or to Hope Street Pizza to grab some dinner. Both of those local Stamford spots are two of our faves!

Stevie would love to nominate The Funky Hippie in Stamford to be featured next - "She sells some of our creations in her super fun crystal shop!"
