Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Organic Ways & Means!

Four questions with Jeff Cordulack, owner of Organic Ways & Means.

Why did you start your business?

I started Organic Ways and Means LLC (OWM) in 2019 for two reasons: The first goal was to demonstrate how all-electric equipment can be used by typical lawn and garden service companies. The staff are happy about avoiding gas and carbon monoxide and the customers, many of whom call because they are looking for alternatives to the noisy air-polluting gas machines, are very pleased with the results.

The second reason was to show how 100% organic landscaping can be done affordably, even for clients with the most exacting standards. No compromises are required to go organic in your yard.

What is your best-selling product/service?

The most popular service offered by OWM is our quiet electric lawn mowing and autumn leaf care. The quality is as good as electric equipment but comes without the fumes and loud noise created by gas landscaping equipment.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We regularly buy from two Stamford nurseries (Designs by Lee and Eden Farm), Ace Hardware stores in the area, and order from a Connecticut-based supplier of organic landscaping materials (Green Earth Ag and Turf).

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Since beginning OWM, we've used various vehicles and gear. Each year, we change a little and have now settled on a setup that works for our client base. Using that model, we plan to expand services to others who seek to escape the gas-powered noise and remove the toxins from their land and air.
