Originally from Haiti, local artist Jean Benoit's love affair with the arts began at an early age when he was exposed to many different art forms including folklore, ballet, jazz, traditional local arts and even comic books. While attending primary school in Port-Au-Prince he’d stare out the window while getting lost in the majestic beauty of the mountains in the country side and draw. At the age of 12 he emigrated to the United States where he would be exposed to varied cultural diversity and contemporary ideas that set forth his artistic journey. A self-taught artist, he has devoted himself to a lifetime study of the arts. His creative endeavors are labors of love. He draws inspiration from all aspects of the universe. Mr. Benoit resides in Stamford, CT and maintains a studio at the Saint Philips Artists' Guild in Norwalk, CT. He is a board member of the Stamford Art Association.
