Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Mighty Makers!

Four questions with Nancy Ferullo, founder of Mighty Makers.

Why did you start your business?

As an educator with over 30 years of experience, I've always been interested in children's programming within the classroom as well as outside the classroom. I've been a camp director and after-school program instructor for as many years as I've been in the school classroom. Working in a variety of settings and programs, I began to see a greater need for creative, innovative, and affordable after-school classes, holiday and specialty workshops as well as summer camp programming.

I've always been an "out of the box" thinker and never tire of exploring and designing creative opportunities for children. The name Mighty Makers reflects the fact that all children are makers in all they create in art, science, engineering, sports, and cooking. I put the mighty in every program offered as each and every opportunity is built with a foundation of confidence building. Classes, workshops, and camps are all about empowering the children to find, embrace and own their "mighty" as they create and make.

What is your best-selling product/service?

While we occasionally offer at-home art, sensory, and science kits, our "products" are the programming offered. Summer camp, cooking, and building classes are quite popular.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I try to purchase all my supplies in Stamford and independently contract classes and camp through Stamford Recreation where I am also a part-time employee.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

While Mighty Makers is still a young business ( entering the 2nd year), my goal is to expand to offer additional classes and programs at different locations. My goal is to reach as many children as possible and in need. Wish list item? A mobile van complete with workstations and materials to bring classes to different sites! You call us and we're there! Mighty Makers on the road!

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION is happening. We are in Stamford Recreation's brochure and the camp will run at Springdale School. Reach out for additional information or register online!
