Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons Updates: Budget and Neighborhood Visits, Legislative Town Hall, and More

MAYOR’S UPDATES

On March 8th, I presented my proposed budget to our local boards. To learn more, visit here.

Over the next six weeks, I will be visiting neighborhoods throughout the City to share my budget priorities and talk about how they support my vision of creating a more inclusive, equitable, affordable and a vibrant City, while delivering a fiscally responsible budget that aims to ease the property tax burden on residents by mitigating the effects of the 2022 property revaluation.

On Monday, I joined Governor Lamont to announce $2.4 million in state funding for Pacific House to build 39 units of affordable housing. We know we face a housing crisis in Stamford and across the state, and these state dollars will mean new opportunities for safe and reliable housing for our fellow residents.

We also received $1 million in CIF funding to complete the design for pedestrian safety and mobility improvements on the West Side, including new and raised crosswalks and bump outs. This supports the City’s Vision Zero Program, which aims to eliminate roadway fatalities in Stamford by 2032.

Also on Monday night, I was proud to join Congressman Himes, State Senator Pat Billie Miller, and State Representative Corey Paris for a legislative town hall. I am always energized hearing from constituents and will take every opportunity to stand with our state and federal officials who have helped us secure hundreds of millions of dollars for our City - from commitments on school construction to pedestrian safety and sustainable infrastructure, and support for non-profits and small businesses.

Finally, I want to congratulate Stamford Hospital on their successful installation of their new fuel cell systems on the Bennett Medical Center Campus and at Tully Health. My administration is working closely with non-profits and major employers across our community to make sure we support them and encourage them to lead by example – including helping us build a resilient and sustainable future prepared for the ongoing impacts of climate change.
