Get Your Flu Shot at Drive Thru Clinic on Saturday at Stamford High School

Flu Shot Drive-Thru Available as Flu Season Kicks Off

Today Mayor David Martin joined Director of Health Dr. Jennifer Calder, and Chair of Infectious Diseases at Stamford Hospital Dr. Michael Parry to kickoff Stamford’s Flu Shot campaign at the City’s Department of Health Clinic. For the first time this year, the City’s health clinic will offer a drive-through clinic to provide flu shots to residents while they remain in their vehicle.

“It is especially important residents get a flu shot this year to avoid getting the flu and going to the hospital,” said Mayor David Martin. “Flu shots are available at our health clinic, your personal doctor’s office, or various pharmacies throughout the city. It only takes a minute and ensures you’ll be protected from the flu this season.”

The flu is a contagious respiratory condition caused by influenza viruses that can vary in severity. Generally, the flu is characterized by symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough — which generally differs from the common cold.

“Because influenza and COVID-19 present in very similar ways, it is more important than ever to get a flu shot this year to minimize the risk of getting both infections,” said Dr. Michael Parry.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend the annual flu vaccine (or “flu shot”) for everyone six months of age and older. The flu vaccine is the most effective way of protecting against this potentially serious disease.

“In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is even more important everyone take a flu vaccine this year,” said Director of Health Dr. Jennifer Calder.

The Department of Health’s Flu Shot Drive-Through Clinic will be hosted on Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Stamford High School parking lot (behind the building, adjacent to Hillandale Avenue, entrance to the drive-through clinic is on Fenway Street).
