Stamford Mayor David Martin Announces Face Coverings Required in All Indoor Public Places Regardless of Vaccination Status

Mayor David Martin held a virtual press conference on Tuesday, August 10, announcing the requirement of facemask or coverings in all indoor public spaces in Stamford, regardless of vaccination status.

The order is in response to new CDC guidelines and the ongoing public health emergency stemming from the substantial rise in Delta variant Covid-19 cases across the State of Connecticut and is effective Thursday, August 12.

  • Mask or face covering must be compliant with CDC guidelines and are required in any private indoor business or place of employment where social distancing is impractical, unlikely, or difficult to maintain. This requirement extends to bars, restaurants, theatres, office buildings, and gyms.
  • All outdoor gatherings of more than 100 persons at City of Stamford facilities or parks will also require masking, regardless of vaccination status.

Mayor Martin has recommended that the Board of Education require all Stamford Public School staff to be fully vaccinated or submit weekly negative Covid test results.

He has also recommended the BOE require face masks to be worn by students and faculty inside Stamford Public School buildings at all times.

According to the US Census Bureau report released today, August 12, Stamford is officially the second largest City in the state of Connecticut behind Bridgeport.
