Stamford Police mourn the passing of longtime officer Douglas Robinson

It was with heavy hearts Stamford Police announce the passing of Officer Douglas Robinson. Officer Robinson fought a courageous 3-year battle with cancer and joined the Stamford Police Department on March 6, 1989.
 
He continued to serve this community even during his battle with cancer.
 
Officer Robinson had a highly decorated career. In addition to his outstanding work as a patrol officer early in his career; he served in the Community Orientated Police Enforcement & Citizens Together (COPE-PACT), Reclaim Our Cities and Connecticut Youth (R.O.C.C.Y), the Stamford Police Department Community Policing Unit, Stamford Police Department Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit (formerly Special Services), School Resource Officer at Stamford High School and his final position as an investigator in the Special Investigations Juvenile Matters Unit. In addition to his regular duties, Officer Robinson was also a member of the Stamford Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team and Crisis Intervention Team. He had an exemplary career and always served with distinction.
 
It would be impossible to list all the awards and recognitions that were bestowed on him during his career but some of the more notable awards include; 1998 Bravery Award, which he received when he stopped an armed robbery in Shippan. He received the Connecticut US Attorney’s Award for Outstanding Performance & Assistance in Joint Investigation and Successful Prosecution of Narcotics & Organized Crime Cases through the U.S. Department of Justice. Officer Doug Robinson worked on countless cases in an undercover capacity. He was recognized for this work by the U.S. Customs Board of Parole, Connecticut State Police, Norwalk Police Department, Greenwich Police Department, Danbury Police Department and the Waterbury Police Department. Officer Robinson was always calm in the face of any adversity.
 
You cannot speak of Doug Robinson without mentioning his community service. Coach Doug Robinson served for 23 years as the Head Coach of the Stamford High School (Stamford/Westhill Co-op) hockey team. He led the team to a State Championship in 2001. Coach Robinson also served as a youth hockey coach and a mighty mite basketball coach. His mentorship runs deep in the Stamford Community.
 
Doug was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Stamford, Council 41. Husband, Father, Officer, Coach, Mentor, Friend; Douglas Robinson touched so many lives through all the hats he wore. Our thoughts, prayers and tears are with his wife Judy and his children James, Casey and Kevin. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
