The Sterling House Community Center (SHCC) is seeking $1.2 million for its Elevator and Facility Enhancement Project. This project involves the construction and installation of an elevator that connects the basement (Resource Connection Program/Food Pantry) to the third floor. The project also includes renovations of the main office and reception area to make it more accessible and easier accommodate the large number of people who come to the agency daily to register for programs and seek information and referral. The Resource Connection Program/Food Pantry will be significantly improved by this project as currently the only access to this program is a very narrow stairway which is a challenge for the elderly and anyone with physical limitations. The Resource Connection Program provides basic needs assistance to over 8,700 individuals yearly in the form of: food, diapers, school supplies, clothing, Thanksgiving meals, pet food, holiday gifts and information and referral. Sterling House provides social, educational and recreational programs for over 13,000 children, teenagers and adults yearly.
SHCC is currently seeking assistance from the State of Connecticut through State Bonding funds.
