Stratford Residents and Public Works Keep Longbrook Park Clean

Sometimes negativity has a way of bringing out the positive in others.  This was the case in the past two days when over the weekend, vandals defaced property at Longbrook Park with offensive hate speech and white supremacist slogans.  Most of the damage was done to park benches near the Marcus Drive end of the park.

Local photographer, Roger Salls took a morning walk along Longbrook Park when he noticed the vandalism and rallied the community on Facebook.  He was also prepared to clean the vandalism by getting anti graffiti paint to clean up the benches and rid them of the hate speech.

Salls also ran into Mayor John Harkins and Public Works Director, Maurice 'Mo" McCarthy and voiced his concerns and observations.  Yesterday afternoon, Stratford Public Works employees erased the hate speech, and credited citizens like Roger Salls for raising the issue and protecting the community.

Longbrook Park has experienced other kinds of vandalism recently, albeit not of a prejudiced kind, when vandals defaced the public bathroom near Penders Field prior to renovation in the past two years.  No leads or arrests have been made, but residents are encouraged to contact the Stratford Police if they see any acts of vandalism occur on local parks.
