May 8, 2019, Yonkers, NY - On Saturday, May 11th, the one-of-a-kind Groundwork Hudson Valley Science Barge will commemorate its 11th anniversary of calling the Yonkers waterfront home, as well as the nearly $1 million renovations and enhancements made over a two year period with a larger-than-life celebration.
The Groundwork Hudson Valley Science Barge is the only hydroponic greenhouse that runs exclusively on renewable energy generated by solar panels, wind turbines, and biofuels, and is irrigated solely by collected rainwater and purified river water – thus operating completely “off-the-grid”.
Festivities will include a tribute to the recently retired Science Barge Director, Bob Walters, interactive educational tours of the new-and-improved Science Barge, live music, food trucks, live animals, face painting, planting and crafting, and eel catching.
