In a few hours, the prediction was realized at 143 Buena Vista Avenue in southwest Yonkers. Neighbors offer conflicting reports that the cause could have been electrical. However, other sources point to fireworks as the cause.
The multifamily building is boarded up and several tenants are now without shelter.One of the families who lived there lost everything, including their cat and dog. Not far from the scene, 117 Stanley Avenue, was the victim of the similar fate just days ago. A marine vet sits in the entrance and muses, "There is only so much police can do. The fireworks are all over the place." Yet one has to wonder how such huge arsenals escape scrutiny.
The road division between Ludlow and Pier streets is littered with the remnants of spent fireworks from the July 4th spree. The arsenal of explosives sits charred but formidable. A now silent explanation of the mayhem that took place just hours before.
