Culture Evolution in Downtown Yonkers

The progression towards a new and improved Yonkers continues with conviction. "Yonkers is the best kept secret in the New York Metro area. We've got it all. Excellent schools, low crime rate, diverse housing, modern affordable office space, a great mix of businesses, lively culture, exceptional retail opportunities, fabulous restaurants and spectacular Hudson River views. And we're only 25 minutes by train to Grand Central Station, "said Mayor Spano.

Yonkers "lively culture" varies from the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra to Eileen's Country Kitchen, a true Irish establishment that serves the traditional bangers and mash dish. There are an abundance of Italian restaurants and a newly emerging artists community that boasts the renovation of the former Yonkers city jail by famed designer, Maya Lin who designed the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington D.C.

Trendy spots pop up like mushrooms in the downtown Yonkers business district and young professionals are beckoned to the community by ad campaigns promising affordable loft living and a hip environment.  Nestled among those lofts is the lively Para Todos Cafe at 14 Warburton Avenue. Only steps from Main Street, the restaurant attracts a loyal following despite two shooting incidents in six months.

The restaurant is open from 9 pm to 4 am and has an extensive and varied menu. They also deliver. Para Todos offers Beer Pong and open mic where local music groups are building  their following in the Hip Hop world. Latin themed music blasts to dancers gyrating on the floor. And if you don't feel like dancing, you can always watch the exotic dancers perform every Thursday. Don't forget to tip! This is where SOYO meets the Y.0. Para Todos is available for birthday parties and special events.
