Friday Flix: Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher

After five people are shot, an arrest is made, and the case looks to be open and shut. Only one problem: the man who seems to be the perpetrator claims he didn’t do it and asks for “Jack Reacher,” an ex-military investigator who finds lots of mystery behind the incident while looking into the case.

Verdict: Listen, say what you want about Tom Cruise, but the dude delivers. Well, maybe except for “Rock of Ages,” but even in that terrible musical, he was still good. Cruise has given us many great performances over the years. “Risky Business,” “Rain Man,” “Top Gun,” “Magnolia,” “Collateral,” the “Mission Impossible” franchise, “The Firm,” and way too many other good ones to list. There is no reason to believe he won’t deliver as Reacher.

Early reviews on “Jack Reacher” are in the middle, but I’ll be at a screening this weekend for sure. The first time I saw the trailer, I was on board. “Reacher” looks to be action packed with some mystery/suspense mixed in, and a bit of humor with a touch of ruthlessness from the main character.

Fans of the “Jack Reacher” books by Lee Child were upset because Cruise looks nothing like the Reacher from the novels (6’5” about 250 lbs. of muscle, blonde hair, blue eyes). But hey, it happens all the time in Hollywood. Perhaps fans of the books will change their mind if they decide to dish out a few bucks for the film. If successful, this is a possible franchise for Cruise.
